Velo Electric: 240% Sales Growth In 90 Days
A paid search and landing page overhaul for an electric bike retailer that had been spending steadily on ads for a year without knowing which half was working.
The Problem
Velo had been running Google Ads for fourteen months on a single campaign with one ad group and forty broad match keywords. Everything pointed at the homepage. Spend was consistent, sales were not, and nobody could say which searches produced revenue because conversion tracking had never been configured correctly.
The account was not the only problem. The homepage it fed asked visitors to browse a catalogue rather than answering the two questions every prospective buyer had: how far does it go on a charge, and what happens if it breaks.
What We Did
- Rebuilt conversion tracking so every sale, call and form was attributed to a keyword
- Split the single campaign into intent tiers: model searches, category searches, competitor searches
- Cut forty broad match terms to eleven exact and phrase terms that had produced revenue
- Built three dedicated landing pages, one per bike category, each answering range and warranty above the fold
- Added finance calculator and test ride booking directly on the landing pages
- Set up call tracking so phone sales stopped being invisible in reporting
The first useful thing we did was turn off two thirds of the spend. Revenue went up that week.
Why It Worked
Nothing here was clever. The account was spending on searches that were never going to buy, and sending the ones that would to a page that did not sell. Fixing the match between search intent and landing page is the single highest return action available in most underperforming ad accounts, and it is the one most often skipped in favour of bid tweaking.
The 61 percent drop in cost per sale came almost entirely from the negative keyword work and the tighter match types. The 240 percent sales growth came from reinvesting that saved budget into the terms that were already converting.
What We Would Do Next
The obvious next move is organic. Velo now knows exactly which search terms produce sales, which makes an SEO content plan a matter of arithmetic rather than guesswork.
