Aether: Explaining Infrastructure Nobody Can See
A cinematic explainer for a distributed server platform whose sales team kept losing deals in the first meeting because prospects could not picture the product.
The Problem
Aether sells decentralised server capacity. Their technology is genuinely good and almost impossible to explain out loud. Sales calls opened with twenty minutes of whiteboarding before anyone could discuss price, and prospects routinely left those calls unable to repeat the pitch to their own colleagues.
What We Did
- Sat in on four real sales calls and recorded where prospects visibly lost the thread
- Wrote the script first and tested it as audio only, before any visual work began
- Storyboarded a single continuous camera move so the viewer never loses spatial context
- Built the 3D server array as a repeating modular system that scales on screen as the narration scales the claim
- Delivered in four languages with baked subtitles, plus 9:16 and 1:1 cutdowns for social
- Supplied the project files so Aether can update figures without returning to us
We wrote the words first and tested them as audio. If the script does not work with your eyes shut, no amount of animation saves it.
Why It Worked
The temptation with a technically complex product is to show everything. We showed one idea, repeated at three scales, and let the narration carry the rest. The single continuous camera move matters more than it sounds: cutting between scenes forces the viewer to rebuild their mental model each time, which is exactly what was already going wrong on sales calls.
The Commercial Outcome
The video now runs before the first sales call rather than during it. The 38 percent reduction in sales cycle length is measured from first contact to signature across the two quarters following launch.
