Why Your Website Is Not Showing Up On Google

Six causes account for almost every case we audit. Work through them in this order and you will find yours, usually within an hour.

This is the most common question we are asked, and the answer is almost never mysterious. Work through these in order.

1. It Is Not Indexed At All

Search Google for site:yourdomain.com. If nothing comes back, Google does not have your pages, and no amount of content work will help until that is fixed. Usual causes are a site that was never submitted, a robots.txt blocking crawlers, or a stray noindex tag left over from development. That last one is remarkably common on sites launched by agencies in a hurry.

2. You Are Indexed But Searching For The Wrong Thing

Searching your own business name and finding yourself proves very little. Search what a customer would type: the service plus your city. If you appear for your brand but not for your service, you have a relevance problem rather than an indexing one.

3. Your Pages Target Nothing Specific

A homepage that says "Welcome to our website" and a services page listing eight things in one paragraph gives search engines nothing to match against. Each page needs one clear subject, stated in the title, the heading and the first paragraph.

4. The Site Is Too Slow On Mobile

Run PageSpeed Insights on your own homepage and look only at the mobile score. If it is under fifty, that is suppressing you, and it is usually caused by oversized images and too many plugins rather than anything exotic.

5. Your Google Business Profile Is Incomplete

For local searches, the map pack sits above the organic results and takes most of the clicks. If your profile is unclaimed or half filled, you are invisible in the part of the page that matters most, regardless of how good your website is.

6. You Are Competing With Businesses Doing All Of The Above

Sometimes nothing is broken and the market is simply competitive. The fix then is not technical, it is strategic: stop chasing the head term and target the specific searches your buyers use. "Web design Houston" is a long campaign. "Web design for dental practices in Pearland" is winnable this quarter and converts better.

Ranking for a term nobody searches with intent is a vanity result. Ranking for the awkward specific phrase is revenue.
